Summer, 2009:

Our new CD, Turning Home, is days away from delivery.  We have scheduled our CD Release party at Wild Hog In The Woods, which will be held on June 12.  We have created a secure and easy way for on-line shoppers to purchase the CD (see our Merchandise page).  We are offering discount prices on our first two CDs.  We have put together a small press kit to announce its release.  We have a radio spot scheduled on WORT 89.9 with Bill Malone on June 3 at 11:00 am to play a few songs live and talk excitedly about it.  Let's see, what have we forgotten?  Nothing.  That's it.  We have a new CD and we're chomping at the bit to get it into the hands of anyone and everyone who wants it (and those who don't).

We'll start sending it out for review next week and then start hawking it from the stage.  We're thinking of getting one of those t-shirt bazooka thingies they have at ball games so we can propel them with great force into the back of the room.  We are leaving them in inconspicuous places throughout the city so someone can accidentally find one and take it home.  We'll be distributing it through the Dane County Library System so it's available for pickup along with the loaner copy of Living Well In A Down Economy For Dummies book.  We'll have them available where ever we go so we can pull them out and say things like "Oh, look!  How did our new CD get there? How embarrassing! It's our new CD.  I don't know how I happened to end up carrying it around with me.  Anyway... it's new.  Just released... Ummm... Wanna hear it?"

calicoDrifters

Based in Madison, Wisconsin, calicoDrifters incorporates a wide range of American song traditions in its distinctive delivery

Their songs cut a broad Turning Home swath through the American musical landscape. Whether it be the raw sound of the delta blues; the distinctive longing of an old-time-styled folk song; the optimism of a snappy, World War II era, jazz standard; or the whimsy of an energetic, pop song, calicoDrifters plays with passion, conviction, and an authenticity that makes each song their own.

Criss-crossing the country from Boston to Baltimore to Georgia to Colorado, California, and numerous points between, calicoDrifters' extraordinary, original songs tell the stories of everyday characters who live ordinary, rich and interesting American lives.

"...some of the best folk music to come along in a long while. Folk music comes in many different varieties; but the kind that CalicoDrifters plays is the kind that conjures up lasting, vivid image and remains with the listener well after the song is over." - Roots Music Review, February, 2007 (RootsMusicReport.com)

"I would highly recommend this recording to anyone who appreciates traditional folk styles and the pastoral form of Americana music." - Rick Tvedt, Rick's Cafe review of Dreams Are The Ponies We Ride, September, 2006

"What's most impressive is the detailed songwriting: Here is the rare example of local country-influenced musicians writing original, fresh and authentic songs." Rich Albertoni, Isthmus' Review of Dreams Are The Ponies We Ride, August, 2006

"There's something going on here. Americana mixed with blues, folk and a little jazz, and great harmonies" - Dale Kidd, Kydd and Byrd

"... A countrified take on back porch torch songs featuring strong vocals and distinctive blues ... accents." The Onion, Oct 27-Nov 2, 2005

"calicoDrifters is one to keep your eye on, professional and unique." - Rick Tvedt, Rick's Cafe: Dane101.com
