Hello caliComrades!
Let’s clear something up right out of the gate, shall we? We know these email love letters have, on more than one occasion, gone from pure ridiculousness to utter nonsense (as though those two conditions are polar opposites – when they’re not, really… which is… sort of the point… If our entire canon of information-centric newsletters can be measured on a scale that ranges from ridiculous to nonsensical… then isn’t it a given that none of it should be taken seriously? Ok, ok… I’m getting ahead of myself…)… Anyway… earlier this summer, we sent one of these out and announced that calicoDrifters was breaking up. Unfortunately, that particular message was lost in the dreck that wrapped the rest of the email and it wasn’t really clear what the hell we were talking about. As a matter of fact, we got a few responses to that email that were particularly telling – and indicative of the fact that we’d left our readers pretty thoroughly in the dark and the dust:
“Ha! Ha! I want some of what you guys are smoking!” (We don’t)
“See you guys in Mt Horeb!” (We did)
“Turning Home… is the soundtrack of a soul” (We died)
“Please take me off this mailing list!” (Done)
and several responses that along these lines: “Huh???” (Ooops)
So… here’s the thing. We are breaking up. We have one more show to give in Madison. So, we’re renting Lake Farm Park and inviting everyone to come out for a picnic concert on Sunday September 19th starting at 1:00pm… we have invited some friends, Graham Webster and Bill and Bobbie Malone to join us. Mark Goad will be there. The sun will shine. The wind will blow… it’ll be great fun. Please come. Bring a friend. Spread the word. We’ll have a flyer on the website (see attached). We’ll play requests… we’ll try not to be so ridiculous and/or nonsensical that we end up being inscrutable… but no guarantees there.
Come say “So long”, then stay in touch will ya?
Thomas and Sue
